Here at Flyers, progress isn’t just about medals or competitions—it’s about confidence, consistency, and personal growth. That’s where our 'High Flyers' Badge Scheme comes in. It’s a fun, structured way to recognise the achievements of our recreational gymnasts as they develop foundational skills.
🎖 What Is High Flyers Badge Scheme?
There are 8 badges in total for gymnasts to work towards. Each badge represents a different level of skill, and to pass a badge, gymnasts must successfully demonstrate 25 individual skills across all of the apparatus (floor, vault, bars & beam). These skills are tailored to help gymnasts build strength, flexibility, coordination, and control—everything they need for safe and confident gymnastics.
✅ How Are Skills Passed?
Our coaches only tick off a skill in their log books when a gymnast can perform skills:
To a high technical standard
With control
Consistently over time
One good attempt isn’t enough—it has to be repeatable and reliable. This helps build strong foundations for future skills and ensures gymnasts are progressing safely.
🗂 Keeping Track: Gymnast Logbooks & Parent Updates
Each gymnast is given a personal logbook that contains all the skills required for each badge level. Coaches update these logbooks during sessions as skills are achieved, making it easy to track progress over time. Once a gymnast has successfully passed all 25 skills for a badge, an email will be sent to parents to celebrate the achievement and keep you informed. It’s a great way to share in your child’s progress and recognise the hard work they’ve put in.
🕒 Progress Is Personal
One of the most important things to remember is that every gymnast progresses at their own pace. Some may earn badges quickly, while others take more time—and that’s perfectly okay. Our badge scheme is not a race, but a journey that looks different for each child.
You may notice that coaches don’t focus on badges every week. While badges are a great way to track recreational progress, they don’t always reflect the more complex or advanced skills some gymnasts are working on that take longer to develop.
Coaches will often revisit badge work at intervals, while spending regular training time drilling more challenging elements like handsprings, backflips, or bar routines. This ensures your child is getting a well-rounded gymnastics experience, not just ticking boxes.
🌟 Why We Use The Badge Scheme
Motivation – Gymnasts love seeing their progress recognised.
Structure – It provides a clear pathway, especially for newer gymnasts.
Celebration – Each badge earned is a moment to be proud of.
Every skill mastered is a step forward. Every badge earned is a celebration of hard work, perseverance, and passion.
We’re proud of every gymnast—no matter where they are on their journey. 🤸♂️💫
